Emma and Norman discover that children are shipped based on age and test scores, with older kids valued as higher quality meat. They resolve to escape before the next shipment in two months and scout the forest. They find a high concrete wall they think can be climbed with rope, but later learn Isabella has implanted tracking devices. Ray joins them after they secure tablecloths for ropes, and Norman convinces him to help free all 37 children. Isabella then introduces a new infant named Carol and an adult helper named Sister Krone, whom the conspirators view as enemies.
