Kojiro observes Sayaka attempting to use a left uchi mata against Yawara, hoping it exploits a weakness in Yawara’s ippon zeoi. Jigoro secretly wishes for Yawara’s defeat to force her into serious training at Sakai. However, Yawara counters with a quick leg sweep, winning the match and causing Sayaka to lose a false tooth. Sayaka departs without reconciliation or threats. In the other semifinal, Tohodoh grows larger against Fujiko, who fights with unusual spirit. Fujiko scores a quick yuko but faces a pinning threat. Hearing Hanazono’s voice, she executes a last-second comeback victory. This result sets up a finals match between best friends. Meanwhile, Hanazono trains so intensely that he misses watching Fujiko’s match on television.
