Ep. 22: Yawara and Jody enjoy their first fun judo match while Sayaka fights Kim Yonsky
Aired on April 16, 1990

22
Yawara engages in her first serious competition against Jody, resulting in an evenly matched bout that ends when Jody injures her right arm. Disappointed by the stoppage, Jody had hoped to continue. Meanwhile, Matsuda and Yamoda are conscripted as referees by Jigoro after sneaking into the Inokuma compound. Yawara secures a promise from Matsuda to keep the match secret and agrees to fight Jody again, as both admit this was their first enjoyable judo experience. In a separate event, Sayaka faces South Korean judoka Kim Yonsky in an exhausting, insult-filled draw. Unlike the warm friendship formed between Yawara and Jody, Sayaka leaves the encounter hating her opponent.
