Yawara stays at Matsuda’s apartment, where her morning judo routine wakes him. False news claims Sayaka hired Jigoro as a coach, upsetting Yawara, though he actually refused the Honami family by calling them weaklings. Shinnosuke remains unfazed, securing an autograph. To help Yawara cope with media attention, Matsuda arranges for her to debut against heavyweight judoka Yuki Tohdoh, who weighs 20 kg more. They plan for Yawara to intentionally lose, hoping the defeat will make the press ignore her. Yawara is relieved Jigoro did not abandon her but feels guilty about hiding her plan to lose. Matsuda later shares this scheme with Yamoda, acknowledging it will crush his dream of living vicariously through Yawara’s success.
