While media attention focuses on Yawara's debut, Matsuda investigates her father Kojiro, the 1974 Japan Judo Championship winner who vanished. Yawara trains with Jigoro, secretly planning to lose and quit judo after the match. She reveals to Matsuda that her mother searches for Kojiro, who returns home only a few times annually. Despite her scheme, Matsuda dreams of fans cheering for her. Meanwhile, Jigoro and Yuki Tohdoh, who resembles a sumo wrestler, compete in an udon eating contest while boasting about defeating each other. Yawara's friends fear for her safety and suggest she cry to stop the match, while also tying a yellow ribbon to her head for fashion. The match starts, and Yawara is quickly thrown for a yuko, worth 5 points, as she proceeds with her plan to lose.
