Yugi and his companions enter the palace to find clues regarding the Pharaoh's true name. Thief King Bakura collapses but places his three Millennium Items into the Millennium Stone. Yami Bakura releases him, leaving the confused Thief King unable to recall his actions before turning to dust while crying for help. Yami Bakura explains he used Bandit Bakura as a pawn. Aknadin betrays the other priests with a time-freezing spell, seizing the Millennium Items to resurrect Zorc Necrophades, the Dark One and Lord of Terror Evil and Darkness. Zorc transforms Aknadin into the Lord of Darkness, the Great Shadow Magus, doubling his power. Yami Bakura reveals the Shadow Game is a board game where present-day versions of Yami Bakura and the Pharaoh play, with their actions dictating events in the Memory World through their game pieces.
