Ep. 9: Nine and Twelve retrieve hidden nuclear materials while Shibazaki learns the truth about the Athena Project.

Nine and Twelve leave their hideout to recover plutonium they previously concealed. Concurrently, Shibazaki and Hamura interview former welfare minister Souta Aoki regarding the Athena Project. Aoki reveals that the program occurred at the Settlement, where orphans were subjected to experiments to induce Savant syndrome, with Five being the sole survivor. He discloses that Nine and Twelve escaped and identifies Dr. Shunzo Mamiya as the mastermind responsible for Shibazaki’s demotion. Meanwhile, Twelve arrives at an amusement park to rescue Lisa, who is strapped with bombs on a Ferris wheel. Despite knowing he cannot disarm them all, he attempts to do so while confessing his feelings. Five contacts him, offering to stop the timer in exchange for the prototype atomic bomb’s location, which she knows was stolen from Aomori. Twelve reluctantly reveals the location. Five disables the timer and cuts the power, trapping them midair, then dispatches police to the school where Nine is retrieving the device. Spotted, Nine flees with the prototype as Five, suffering a severe headache, orders his capture before fainting.
