Nozomu Itoshiki instructs students to adjust gradually to summer vacation, fearing sudden changes are unhealthy. Despairing over society’s frequent hard landings, he creates a flight simulator to demonstrate proper soft landings. Later, Nozomu meets a retiring taxi driver and pays an exorbitant fee after being pulled into the driver’s dramatic final run. Despite trying to escape, he remains drawn to other intense situations. In the final segment, Nozomu discusses backward flow, where people pursue interests in reverse. While he finds this embarrassing, Kafuka argues it is manly, comparing it to salmon swimming upstream. Meanwhile, Chiri compels others to approach their interests directly, rejecting the usual backward method.
