Shomin Onyado

Two young men, identifying as nihilists, ride a motorcycle to Chikura in Chiba Prefecture with the goal of swimming. As evening falls, they become disoriented. They encounter a traveling salesman from Yamanashi, who leads them to an elderly woman living alone in a rural house. The four spend the night there, drinking whiskey as suggested by the woman. After she falls asleep, the salesman shares a sorrowful personal story. The narrative is set against the backdrop of a quiet countryside and was originally published in Weekly Manga Sunday in April 1975.
