Kitaro and Nezume-Otoko are enjoying the festival. They decide to stay the night at a hotel. When the owner of the Inn brings them to their room, her daughter Naoko startles her. Naoko claims to hear a strange sound from outside, but her mom dismisses it as the festival's drums, and tells her to go outside and play. Naoko does so, and decides to investigate the noise by herself. She reaches an area outside of town and meets a witch, who offers to take Naoko in as an apprentice and train her to become a witch.
