Simoun

In the theocratic nation of Simulicram, all individuals are born female and may choose their gender at 17 through a formal ceremony. Piloting the ancient warships called Simoun requires synchronized pairs of priestesses who forgo the ceremony. After a devastating assault by a foreign power, Aer is chosen to join the Simoun pilots. To do so, she must connect with Neviril, the leader of the Chor Tempest squadron. Neviril, however, remains emotionally attached to her former partner, who died during an unauthorized maneuver in battle.
