A young woman from a once-proud noble family struggles to support herself in a fictional medieval empire. Her father holds a respected but poorly paid position as a palace librarian, while she teaches at a temple school and takes on part-time work. She dreams of passing the imperial exams and entering government service, though such a path is closed to women. Her life changes when she is offered a six-month position in the imperial household as the young Emperor's consort, tasked with educating him in governance. In return for successfully guiding him, she would receive substantial financial compensation. The narrative explores her evolving connections with the Emperor and court figures, the political maneuvering within the palace, and her determination to improve both herself and the nation. The series includes 18 main volumes, four volumes of side stories, and one volume of short stories.
