Tamahome attacks Hotohori to kill him and Miaka, who attempts to escape her confinement. Hotohori gains the upper hand until he notices Miaka running toward them, distracting him. Seizing the moment, Tamahome is struck through the torso by Hotohori’s sword. As Miaka screams his name and rushes to him, she kisses the weakened Tamahome, causing him to break free from Nakago’s curse. Mitsukake heals his injuries, allowing Tamahome to return to Kutou to retrieve the "Universe of the Four Gods" scroll. Yui permits his departure. Although Miaka is overjoyed by his safe return, the situation remains deceptive. Nakago has prepared another trap for the couple, indicating that their reunion is not as secure as it appears.
