Japan's rapid advancements in science, technology, and medicine have positioned it as a prominent force in Asia. Amid this progress, many Japanese citizens face financial hardship, striving daily to cover basic living costs. Some turn to harmful habits like gambling and alcoholism, which drain their resources and worsen their situations. When desperate for money to satisfy human desires, they risk falling into the hands of predatory lenders operating outside the law. These lenders exploit vulnerable individuals with traps that lead to further suffering and peril. The manga received the 56th Shogakukan Manga Award for general manga in 2011 and the 23rd Japan Media Arts Festival Social Impact Award in 2020.
