Um grupo de guerreiros conhecido como Cavaleiros do Zodíaco defende a deusa Atena. Seiya, um órfão, é destinado a se tornar o Cavaleiro de Pégasus. Atena foi reencarnada, mas uma profecia avisa que ela será derrotada por Poseidon e Hades, levando à destruição da humanidade. Seiya se recusa a aceitar esse destino e promete protegê-la. Após uma flecha assassina de deus perfurar seu coração, Seiya precisa chegar ao Santuário e superar doze Cavaleiros de Ouro em doze horas para salvá-la. O desfecho da profecia permanece incerto caso ele consiga.
