Fushigi Yuugi

Two junior-high students, Miaka Yuuki and Yui Hongo, are transported into the world of an ancient Chinese book called "The Universe of The Four Gods" while at the National Library. Miaka is chosen as the priestess of Suzaku and tasked with finding her celestial warriors to summon the god and grant three wishes. Meanwhile, Yui is manipulated by the nation of Seiryuu to become its priestess. The two former friends now find themselves on opposing sides, each working to summon their respective gods and fulfill their wishes.
