Heartbroken after being stood up, Junichi meets friend Kaoru, who invites him to her home for cake with her mother. Two years later, the pair maintain a snarky friendship. Kaoru brings Junichi to the school infirmary after he gets punched, then asks him to meet in the flower garden. Expecting a confession, Junichi instead finds Kaoru and her friend Keiko seeking advice on a crush, which he suggests resolving with a letter. On the way home, Junichi mentions his assumption about the garden meeting, flustering Kaoru as she heads to her restaurant job. Junichi later visits the restaurant, causing Kaoru nervousness. Observing his reaction, she realizes she has developed romantic feelings for him.
