Jinta and his friends visit Menma's mother to inquire about fireworks, but she reacts with anger and sadness regarding their survival while Menma died years ago. Atsumu then accuses Jinta of projecting his pain onto others, prompting Jinta to pursue Menma's wish independently. His multiple jobs harm his health, leading Naruko to intervene; she admits she once felt happy when Jinta spoke poorly of Menma due to her own crush, and warns that granting the wish would cause Menma to disappear again. The following day, Jinta visits his mother's grave with his father while the group receives silent calls from his home. Menma's brother Satoshi shares memories with Jinta, and the group confronts him at the secret base regarding the calls. Menma then reveals her presence by writing a new diary entry and dropping it.
