Jinta attempts to uncover Menma's wish by returning to school, but his presence is overshadowed by rumors placing Naruko at a love hotel. Distressed by the gossip, Naruko becomes upset, prompting Jinta to defend her and both leave class immediately. Worried about her parents learning the news, Naruko stays at the secret base. Seeking clues to Menma's wish, Jinta and Tetsudou visit her home to pay respects, where her mother provides Menma's diary for them to read later. When Jinta informs Menma of the visit, she grows upset, revealing she wanted her mother to forget her to avoid sadness. Jinta angrily accuses her of selfishness and runs off.
