Jinta, Naruko, and Tetsudou read Menma's diary, revealing a past plan to craft a firework letter to God for Jinta's mother, which was blocked by modern laws. Chiriko questions Atsumu about Menma contacting the group on that specific day, and he explains it was a secret meant to protect Jinta. Jinta's father directs him to a fireworks maker, but the cost is revealed to be 200,000 yen. To afford this, Jinta takes a part-time job, alternating between working at Naruko's game store and Tetsudou's construction site. Menma overhears Naruko discussing the firework and witnesses Jinta's efforts on her behalf. However, the group learns the next day that the maker cannot fulfill the order due to orders from one of Menma's parents.
