Black Jack and Pinoko travel to Australia to investigate a mysterious plague. The pair become separated during their inquiry. Pinoko befriends an Australian local, while Black Jack treks across the land for several days. He eventually contracts the deadly disease, which he identifies as a parasite called Echinococcus, a tapeworm responsible for echinococcosis or hydatid disease. To survive, Black Jack performs surgery on himself inside a plastic tent to remove the parasite.
