Shusuke Amagai is appointed captain of the third division by the Thirteen Court Guard Squads, naming Makoto Kibune as his third seat officer. Despite this, division members are unsatisfied. Lieutenant Izuru Kira hosts a welcome party suggested by Rangiku Matsumoto, but Amagai collapses from low alcohol tolerance. Gillians invade the Dangai, prompting the third division to engage them. The Koutotsu, a dimensional cleanser, appears, forcing the squad to flee imminent destruction. Amagai arrives late and effortlessly destroys the Koutotsu, saving the division. After the crisis, the squad discovers Amagai remains intoxicated from the earlier incident.
