Kon attempts to hide Nozomi Kujou from Ichigo's family while Rukia frees Ichigo from his cell. Juushirou Ukitake and Shunsui Kyouraku investigate Ichigo's connection to recent disappearances after his badge is found in the Dangai. Rukia explains the time difference between worlds to Ichigo, but they are attacked by Renji Abarai and Ikkaku Madarame, who act unusually ruthless. Yoruichi Shihouin seals the attackers and escapes with the pair, revealing that Renji and Ikkaku are reigai used to test soul candies, implicating the twelfth division. Ichigo and Rukia infiltrate a laboratory and learn Nozomi is a fugitive. A scientist and the reigai of Kira and Nanao pursue Nozomi into the human world. Kon follows her, and both are cornered by the scientist until Uryuu Ishida arrives to assist them.
