In Karakura Town, the bitto attack humans by extracting their souls and turning their bodies to dust, returning the purified souls to the Bounts to enhance their power. Soi Fon's second division attempts to combat the creatures but fails to inflict damage. Tenth division captain Toushirou Hitsugaya decides that relying solely on Ichigo is insufficient and orders additional Soul Reapers to enter the human world. Concurrently, Renji engages in battle to protect a human boy from a bitto assault. This narrative forms part of the Bount arc, specifically identified as episode 18 out of 28 in the series.
