Tomoya stays home to nurse Ushio, who suffers from the same illness as Nagisa. He arranges for Akio and Sanae to help if he must leave, and later resigns from his job. Yusuke offers well wishes, while Akio provides financial support, though Tomoya refuses it, citing the need to protect his family. He suspects a connection between the girls' lives and the city's changes. As winter and Christmas arrive, Ushio’s fever persists, and Tomoya begins hallucinating. She requests another trip, which he finally agrees to, fearing he cannot keep future promises. During their outing in the snow, Ushio’s condition deteriorates rapidly. She dies in his arms after confessing her love, causing Tomoya to collapse in grief before a strange event occurs.
