Five years after Tomoya left Ushio with Akio and Sanae, he leads a mundane life focused on work, smoking, and drinking. Sanae eventually invites him on a family trip, and despite her persistent requests, he agrees to join them. On the day of the departure, Tomoya realizes that Akio and Sanae have intentionally abandoned him with Ushio. The pair spends the subsequent day and night together. When the others fail to return, Tomoya asks Ushio if she would still want to travel with someone like him. They decide to take the trip alone, walking together while Tomoya wonders about their destination.
