Light and Near meet in an abandoned warehouse, each having devised a strategy to defeat the other. Light presents Mikami, who writes names in a Death Note, excluding only Light. Near asserts confidence that the notebook pages are fake, claiming he tampered with them. The true Kira will be identified by whose name remains unwritten. Light suppresses his excitement, believing he anticipated Near’s actions and arranged for Takada to retain the authentic Death Note while swapping Mikami’s copy for a forgery. As the countdown to the notebook’s power activation proceeds, Light declares his victory to Near, confident in his superior preparation and the outcome of their confrontation.
