Ep. 34: Near plans to approach Mikami while Aizawa investigates Light and Takada's secret communications.

Following Gevanni's report, Near decides to approach Mikami carefully to avoid alerting the Shinigami watching him. Aizawa monitors notepads before Light and Takada meet, suspecting secret communication. Takada informs Light about her meeting with Misa, prompting Light to reassure her and forge a script making it appear she agreed to help capture Kira. Aizawa confirms his suspicions. The SPK captures Misa, and when Light tells Near they lost track of her, Near reveals he already has her. Meanwhile, Gevanni searches Mikami's locker during his workout, finds the notebook, and photographs the names during a second visit. Near verifies the handwriting belongs to Mikami and, possessing all necessary evidence, initiates his plan.
