Hyakkimaru finds Dororo trapped in a fish trap and seeks assistance from the monk Nyudo Shiki at a nearby temple. After the monk provides a tool, Hyakkimaru returns to find Dororo missing and confronts the suspicious monk, who transforms into a demon and flees. A woodcutter reveals that the monk was buried alive years ago for refusing to yield his temple to a warrior general, but was saved by local animals that subsequently protected the villages. With the woodcutter's aid, Hyakkimaru rescues Dororo and defeats the demon, gaining the ability to feel heat, cold, and pain.
