Goku and Tien agree to keep the presence of Piccolo's spawn at the tournament a secret. During the preliminary matches, all fighters demonstrate the benefits of their training. Goku shows he has learned to harness his ki. Tao reappears, still alive and now a cyborg, having entered the tournament to kill Goku and Tien for vengeance. He seriously injures Chiaotzu.
