Fujita Reiji refuses a $20 million offer for a Van Gogh, claiming it is a fake, and travels to New York with Sara Halifa for a Sotheby's auction. There, he meets Mitamura Sayoko, who accuses him of black market dealings, and Max Watson, who is conducting the sale. Fujita becomes interested in a Monet haystack painting, End of Summer Morning, and negotiates with Kain Aubrey to act as his broker. Aubrey sets a $10 million limit for the work, which was previously sold cheaply to Bill Travers. During the auction, Sara bids for Fujita, pushing the price to $30 million to defeat Travers. Ultimately, Kain Aubrey purchases the painting, promising to donate it to the MET upon his death.
