Police arrest Fujita for allegedly selling a counterfeit Albrecht Dürer painting. Mitamura serves as an expert witness and appraiser for the investigation. Initially suspecting the artwork is fake, she reevaluates her stance after receiving a greeting card from Fujita featuring a copy of Kouhaku Hasegawa's Shourinzu Byoubu. This prompts deeper analysis. In court, she testifies that the Dürer piece is authentic, likely unfinished and signed with his monogram after varnishing. Subsequently, Fujita meets Mitamura at the Tokyo National Museum in front of the original Shourinzu Byoubu to express gratitude. Despite this encounter, Mitamura maintains her stance and threatens to expose him as a fraud.
