Ep. 5: Fujita investigates a stolen Bodhisattva and uncovers a hidden golden Buddha statue.
Head-Inspector Mohorito Chinen visits Fujita regarding a stolen carved wooden Bodhisattva from a Nara temple. Fujita examines an old wooden Fudou-Myou-Ou statue, suspecting the owner’s son Akihiko seeks the property due to family resentment. Fujita agrees to restore the piece and researches archives about a rumored golden Buddha. During the process, a corroded metal statue composed of gold, copper, and silver falls out. Chinen leaves in disgust, believing he missed a chance to requisition the gold. However, Fujita reveals the metal statue is a fake he planted. He then retrieves the original golden Buddha from inside the wooden figure. Akihiko and his father reconcile, and they hide the golden statue in a tree for safety. Akihiko subsequently offers to sell the stolen Bodhisattva to Fujita, planning to use the funds for temple preservation.
