Ep. 1: Albert de Morcerf and Franz d'Epinay attend the annual Carnival on Luna

Viscount Albert de Morcerf and Baron Franz d'Epinay, childhood friends from wealthy Parisian noble families, vacation at the annual Carnival on Luna. During an opera performance, Albert becomes fascinated by the Count of Monte Cristo. While following the Count, Albert inadvertently receives a dropped pocketwatch, which he uses to arrange a meeting. The Count invites both young men to dinner during the Carnival's final spectacle. At the event, Albert is given the authority to pardon one of three murderers by selecting a card. He randomly chooses Rocka Buriol, the boastful murderer, causing him surprise and dismay. Seeking distraction, Albert attempts to spend the night with a woman, but she suddenly threatens him with a gun.
