Peppo, a maid, manipulates Albert by suggesting his mother loves the Count. This leads Albert to obsess over a locked drawer after seeing Mercédès look at an old photograph. Later, Albert and his friends visit the Count’s mansion on the Champs-Élysées, exploring a gold city beneath the house. The Count presents Albert with a sword originally given to him by a ship navigator he once knew.
