Valentine remains unconscious after being poisoned, while Villefort suppresses the incident as a family matter despite Albert’s failed plea for help. Later, General de Morcerf, Baron Danglars, Villefort, and Gaspard Caderousse attend a mysterious funeral invitation from Edmond Dantès. They discover the coffin contains a detective Villefort hired to investigate the Count, who was killed by the Count disguised as Luigi Vampa. With Valentine still in danger, Franz and Maximilien decide to take matters into their own hands and find themselves aided by a most unlikely source.
