On New Year's Eve, Phoenix Wright and Maya Fey join Detective Gumshoe and the judge aboard the Silver Star express train for its maiden voyage, hosted by Avery Richman. Richman, a fugitive sentenced to death, seizes control of the train with his staff. He claims his American conviction was unjust and invites the original trial witnesses to conduct a fair retrial, appointing Phoenix as defense attorney and Tristan Turnbull as prosecutor. While Gumshoe attempts a rescue, he finds that the dining car containing the passengers has inexplicably disappeared from the train.
