Edward overhears Hohenheim and Pinako discussing whether the transmutation corpse was his mother. Hohenheim departs, warning of impending disaster. Alphonse explains his situation to Ling, who remains indifferent to the consequences, upsetting Winry. Edward and Pinako dig up the corpse in the rain, confirming it is not their mother. Edward contacts Izumi regarding her human transmutation, but she remains silent. He returns to Central to reassure Alphonse and Winry about restoring Alphonse’s body. Izumi later calls, confirming similar results, which validates the possibility of restoration but not resurrection. The group feels relief that they did not kill their loved ones twice. The Elric brothers reaffirm their determination to restore Alphonse to his original form.
