The principal orders Lynn to remain at home until the truth is revealed, instructing Jim to wait before quitting. Philip suspects Mary after she contacted him regarding the race and attempts to speak with her. Phyllis and Mathilda accuse Lynn, presenting a cut strap to Dorothy and Sarah, which Cathy confirms and shows to Philip. Mary’s grandfather seeks the mansion to retaliate against George. Cathy observes Mary discussing an unknown topic and reports this to Philip, though they lack evidence. Meanwhile, Edward sneaks into the house while Patricia takes Isabelle out. After seeing news about Mary’s father’s wares, Edward realizes Mary forced Lynn to race. He confronts Vivian in the hospital, urging her to tell the truth. She visits the principal and then Lynn’s home to return a newspaper, allowing Lynn to return to school.
