Keiichi visits the Hojo residence to check on Teppei and finds Satoko needing medical attention. He transports her to the clinic, only to learn that Coach Irie has died by suicide and Oishi is missing. Satoko asks to retrieve clothes from Rika's house. At the Furude Shrine, Keiichi finds Rika's mutilated corpse. Satoko accuses Keiichi of being possessed by Oyashiro and pushes him off a bridge. Desperate, Keiichi wishes for the village to perish. Poisonous volcanic gas from the Onigafushi swamp erupts, killing everyone in Hinamizawa. Keiichi survives the fall and the gas leak, becoming the sole survivor of the disaster.
