Ep. 16: Shion recounts her past in Hinamizawa, revealing her secret identity and complex relationships.

This narrative retells Watanagashi-hen events through Shion’s perspective, detailing how she escaped the Sonozaki family’s tradition of killing twin infants. With caretaker Kasai’s help, she returned to Hinamizawa and assumed her sister Mion’s identity to work at their uncle’s shop. Shion discovers the truth about Oyashiro’s curse and the mysterious deaths affecting the town. She meets Satoshi Hojou, a classmate who mistakes her for Mion, and develops feelings for him. Satoshi’s parents died due to the curse after supporting a dam project, leaving him and his sister Satoko to be raised by resentful relatives who faced village ostracization. Attempting to cheer Satoshi up, Shion attends school in Mion’s place. When her efforts fail, she violently attacks Satoko, blaming her for Satoshi’s suffering. Rika and Rena intervene, but Satoshi ultimately pushes Shion aside, revealing his deep hatred for the Sonozaki family’s persecution of the Hojou lineage.
