Akasaka and Oishi rescue a kidnapped boy, but Akasaka is shot during the operation. They realize the kidnappers' demands were already satisfied. Akasaka finds phone lines cut and encounters Rika, who reveals the annual deaths linked to the Watanagashi Festival starting in Shouwa Year 54 (1979). She expresses a desire to live happily. It is later revealed that Akasaka's wife died on the day of the festival after giving birth. Years later, Akasaka visits the retired Oishi in his mother's hometown. He recounts Rika's warnings, and Oishi shares that during the Hinamizawa disaster, Rika was found naked at the Furude shrine with her organs removed after being drugged. Akasaka has returned to uncover the truth behind the Shrine God's curse.
