Ep. 7: Kaga Damaged in Skirmish, Shoukaku Takes Her Place for Next Day Mission

Kaga sustains damage protecting Zuikaku during a battle with the Abyssal, prompting Nagato to assign Shoukaku to replace her for an upcoming mission. Fubuki shares Admiral concerns about compromised codes and directs Shoukaku and Zuikaku to deploy recon planes after the main fleet is ambushed by hidden dive bombers. While Fubuki engages one carrier group, Shoukaku and Zuikaku fall into a trap set by another carrier group, leaving Shoukaku severely damaged and unable to communicate. Recalling Kaga’s advice, Zuikaku hides the damaged ship within a squall to survive. Fubuki and the others eventually locate them, destroying the enemy carrier and sinking the remainder of the fleet, which forces the survivors to retreat into the storm.
