Shivering in the Ezo region, Togame and Shichika are discovered by 11 year-old Itezora Konayuki, the sole survivor of her clan. She shelters them and reveals the sixth sword, Kanazuchi, adhering to her clan’s rule that it must not be surrendered unless the wielder is defeated in combat. Shichika’s initial spar results in a broken arm, marking Konayuki as the first person to defeat him. During his recovery, the vengeful Maniwa Kyouken possesses Konayuki, revealing that Nanami annihilated her clan. Shichika overcomes Kyouken’s spirit in battle, leaving Konayuki unconscious. Upon waking, Konayuki apologizes for her deception and relinquishes the sword, promising to transport Kanazuchi to the mainland before residing at the Sanzu shrine.
