In their fifth month, the pair encounter Azekura Kanara, a pirate ruling the port of Satsuma who holds Zokutou Yoroi, one of the 12 swords. Believing Togame resembles his late sister, he proposes a contest where victory grants him Togame as his woman. The duel intensifies as Kanara declares his affection, transforming the conflict beyond a mere struggle for the blade. Shichika identifies the sword's weakness and strikes Kanara down, compelling his surrender. Although spared due to being among the few survivors of Shichika's combat, Kanara acts with malice by altering the ship's route, thereby changing the travelers' path to their next destination.
