With one week remaining until the Kantou tournament, Maaya proposes a wager where Kaname must obey the swimmers if they win, aiming to boost morale. The team trains and arrives at their Kantou hotel, where they encounter the Shinomiya team at an open-air bath. A contest ensues, requiring the first team to have all members stand up to shave their under hairs in front of the losers. The intense heat drains the energy of both Umishou and Shinomiya female swimmers, leading to poor results in the next day's preliminaries. Maaya finishes seventh and runs away in distress. Shizuoka finds her and offers encouragement, helping Maaya realize that defeat is not the end of the world.
