Kasel and his companions reach a village overrun by the undead and seek shelter in Johann’s home, the only survivor and father of Elise. They plan to rest there, hoping to avoid the creatures during daylight hours. However, Kasel stumbles upon Johann’s secret: he has imprisoned his undead wife, Lisa, in the basement. Johann explains his desperate attempt to restore her humanity so they can reunite as a family with Elise. Eventually, he accepts that she is truly gone. After Kasel and his allies eliminate the remaining threats, Johann is finally reunited with his daughter Elise.
