Mamodo Zatch Bell arrives in Kiyo Takamine's room with a letter from his father, who found the amnesic boy in a forest with a red book. Kiyo reads Zakeru from the book, causing Zatch to accidentally blast lightning through the wall. At school, Kiyo sends Zatch to the rooftop to avoid bullies, where Zatch encounters Suzy Mizuno and Kane. Kane beats up Zatch and mocks Kiyo, who eventually intervenes but is also defeated. Eido, a flying skateboarder, attacks them and demands Suzy be his girlfriend. Kiyo realizes Zatch is using wind techniques and reads Zakeru again, firing lightning at Eido to scare him away. Meanwhile, Brago and Sherry Belmont observe from a distance, confirming that the mamodo battle has begun.
