Flashbacks show Saya, Ailain, and Ramis fleeing large mutant dogs controlled by Zidd. Meanwhile, the 17th Platoon enjoys a day off while Nina and Harley watch inter-platoon matches, and Layfon has lunch with Mayshen. The city of Zuellni falls into a ditch, attracting numerous larvae contaminoids from their underground nest. With an invasion imminent, Kalian orders all military arts students to defend the city despite their lack of experience. Layfon advises Nina and Sharnid, who lead the 9th Platoon defending the northwest section, to evacuate as they are outmatched. Nina ignores his warning. Realizing his friends are in grave danger, Layton gains the resolve to fight. The 9th Platoon abandons Nina and Sharnid when their weapons fail. Nina is saved by Layfon, who uses a modified DITE provided by Harley. With Felli's assistance, Layfon locates the nest and destroys the queen contaminoid. At sunrise, Layfon collapses from exhaustion onto Nina, who congratulates him.
