In the present, Layfon Wolfstein Alseif travels from his regios to the academic city of Zuellni. Meanwhile, Nina Antalk loses a platoon member and must find recruits. Layfon arrives in Zuellni just as a fight between two students causes a building to collapse on Mayshen Torinden. He uses incredible speed to save her after receiving a telepathic command. Layfon meets student body president Kalian Loss, who forces him into a military arts platoon. Nina, having witnessed the rescue, recruits Layfon into the 17th Platoon. He later meets Felli Loss, a platoon member who sent the telepathic message. That evening, Layfon remembers he was one of the fighters against Limbeekun in the past.

Jan 25, 2009In Glendan, Leerin Marfes meets Synola Leisler, who sees visions through her eyes. In Zuellni, Layfon explains to Kalian his desire for a peaceful life, then tells Nina he wants to stop fighting. Cloaked hunters capture Zuellni, the city’s electronic spirit. Dickserio Muscaine transports Nina and the spirit to another dimension, where they defeat the hunters. Dickserio then uses kei energy to put Nina to sleep. Harley Sutton reveals to Layfon how Zuellni’s sacrifice in Nina’s childhood drove her to seek power. Layfon returns home, meeting Mifi Rotten and Naruki Gelni with Mayshen. Felli forgives Layfon for the inter-platoon match incident, but requires them to assign each other nicknames. Using psychokinetic powers, Felli detects a large dragon in the distance. A flashback shows Ailain Garfied rescuing a young girl named Saya from attackers escaping a complex.

Feb 1, 2009A flashback shows Saya and Ailain acting as bodyguards for Ramis while evading pursuers. In the present, Sharnid Elipton takes Layfon to a maid cafe where Felli works to find her own path. Later, Felli overhears Mifi, Naruki, and Mayshen discussing an investigation of a haunted abandoned research center and joins them. Inside, the trio is captured by a strange creature, but Felli is rescued by Vanzeh Hardy. He explains the facility closed due to past failed experiments against contaminoids. After encountering the creature again, Felli collapses the ceiling on it while Vanzeh delivers the final blow. Vanzeh covers up the incident by claiming the girls were knocked out by leaking chemicals. Layfon accompanies Felli and sees her smile, only to be kicked for witnessing it.

The city of Zuellni falls into a ditch, attracting numerous larvae contaminoids from their underground nest. With an invasion imminent, Kalian orders all military arts students to defend the city despite their lack of experience. Layfon advises Nina and Sharnid, who lead the 9th Platoon defending the northwest section, to evacuate as they are outmatched. Nina ignores his warning. Realizing his friends are in grave danger, Layton gains the resolve to fight. The 9th Platoon abandons Nina and Sharnid when their weapons fail. Nina is saved by Layfon, who uses a modified DITE provided by Harley. With Felli's assistance, Layfon locates the nest and destroys the queen contaminoid. At sunrise, Layfon collapses from exhaustion onto Nina, who congratulates him.

Layfon battles Savalis until the spirit of Saya, appearing as a Heaven's Blade, chooses him as her wielder, allowing him to win. Leerin delivers the katana, and Layfon merges it with the Heaven's Blade. While other wielders fight the Wolfmask Mob and a restrained contaminoid, an airborne contaminoid attacks the city. With the cannon ineffective, Kalian orders citizens to evacuate Zuellni to Glendan. Layfon assaults the airborne threat, supported by cannon fire, while his allies destroy the other contaminoid. Lintens returns a recovering Leerin to Glendan, where Alsheyra is relieved to see her. Layfon promises to return to Glendan soon.
